LISTEN
“Mellow Drama” is an original ballad from the 1960 album, Portrait of the Artist. It's another through-composed piece, though it does “feature” the piano. I wrote it for a smaller band instrumentation, made up of some of the greatest studio musicians of the time:
Gene Quill – alto sax/clarinet
Danny Bank – bass clarinet/alto flute
Ernie Royal, Nick Travis – trumpets
John Barrows – french horn
Frank Rehak – slide trombone
Bill Barber – tuba
Bob Brookmeyer – piano
George Duvivier – bass
Charlie Persip – drums
Thankfully, it is still in print and on CD. It is paired up with a Jimmy Giuffre album that I played on too. You can find it on Amazon (sometimes offered as used for cheap). To purchase the album from Amazon, CLICK HERE.
